When Lord Wellington came to Cadiz to consult with the government about the future operations of the army, he stayed at Mr. Gordon's house, going and returning. They were astonished at the simplicity of his habits. He had mentioned over night that he wished to be called at seven o'clock next morning. Accordingly, Mr. Gordon had the servants all ready with shaving water, &c., and the instant the hour struck, he knocked at the door, when his Lordship desired him to come in. He was already dressed, and was rolling up his shaving apparatus, himself having performed that operation with cold water, and was ready to mount and depart. They, with some difficulty, prevailed on him to take a slight breakfast.
